Empowering for Sustainability: Bridging the Gap from Knowing to Doing

To move towards more sustainable production, it’s crucial that everyone plays their part. Of course, we need some big changes like switching to clean energy, but we also need lots of smaller actions. Even the everyday tasks in the workshop can help, and all these efforts add up. Melanie Despeisse and her collaborators across academia and industry have developed a toolbox for using resources more efficiently. Based on their research and practical experience, how can each of us contribute to making production more sustainable? We’ve found that most, if not all, people understand and want to help, but sometimes they wonder, "What can I actually do?" How can we bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it? What key performance indicators (KPIs) can guide us in taking the right actions, and what data do we already have that can help us make production more sustainable?
